“Trading Spaces”
September 25, 2007On the television show “Trading Spaces”, Two couples decorates a room in each others house. They go in and remove old, outdated furniture and decor. They either paint, build, or buy things to replace the “old junk”. In an attempt to update and beautify the room. And like “Trading Spaces”, when our lives are full of “junk” we turn to God to make us new. God comes in and paints over our sins. Gets rid of the junk.
2Corinthians5:17 says,
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
But…
How many times do we turn around, when times are not tough, and bring the “junk” back into our lives?
When we repent and are baptized, there is a burial of our “old self”, our sinful self. We shouldn’t make the mistake of carrying the old dead body around. It will only cause decay in our new life.
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s
mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of
worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
