“Keys to the Presence” #2

July 22, 2007

#2 Seek Him.

Jeremiah 29:13 states:

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Seek Him in prayer.
Once we have make a place for God’s presence with praise and worship, we need to look for Him there. We need to seek Him. And, we need to pray. Pray for forgiveness. Pray for thanksgiving. Pray for our needs, and the needs of those around us. Our praise is us shouting out to God, “Hey, God, come over here”. But our prayers should be us talking to Him when He is near. It could be a quiet conversation. It could be a loud get-together among friends. It could be a pity party, tears and all. It could even be a song sang to God.

Prayer cannot be a recital of words from a book. It cannot be words taken from someone else. I cannot pray your prayer. You cannot pray my prayer. It must be true and from the heart. And like exercise, you wouldn’t run 10 miles the first day. Don’t expect to pray long and hard. You must build up your spirit man over time. Like life, prayer is also a journey. It starts with one step, and is more about the journey than the finish.
