Don’t look back

July 11, 2007

Luke 9:62,

Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

When man plowed with horse or oxen, he would hitch the animal to the plow. He would set his gaze to a point on the horizon. Then he would steer, the animal and the plow, to that point. He did this to maintain a straight row, the straighter the better. It made it easier to plant, to care for, and to harvest. If at any time he would look back, the animal or the plow could pull him from his course.

It’s the same when serving God. If we take our eyes from Him, life could pull us in the wrong direction. It could pull us from our course.
